A Bit About Our History
In July 1978, 11,000 members of the Lathers' Union voted overwhelmingly in support of the merger with the Carpenters. Vice President, Patrick Campbell ensured the transition was accomplished in a most expeditious and fair manner. President Sidell stated, "this affiliation should not be viewed by anyone as a defeat or victory, but rather as the consequence of technology and the coming together of two great organizations to strengthen the Labour Movement and the Industry." The merger ended almost 80 years of jurisdictional disputes between the two organizations.
Local 675 came into being in 1980, the result of a merger between Locals 562 (Lathers) and 1617 (Acoustic/Drywall). The transition to the new Local 675 was barrier and trouble free and brought together skilled trades dedicated to providing the highest standard of quality, service and finished product.
Local 675 members have been instrumental to the Ontario construction industry. Members have worked on state-of-the-art hospitals and related health care facilities, luxury condominium/ hotel developments such as the Four Season, Sangri-La and the Trump Tower, and iconic entertainment facilities such as the Air Canada Centre and Toronto
Over the past several decades, Local 675 remains committed in its efforts to better the lives of its members.
